Latika Junior Tennis Club

Latika is based in Bracknell and is the only all-junior Tennis Club in Berkshire. The objective of the club is to develop the children's tennis skills whilst having fun too.

About the Club

Latika is one of very few tennis clubs in the country run exclusively for children. The club's aim is to improve the standard of players by making tennis fun. The membership consists of over 100 children aged between 5 and18 years who are trained in groups according to ability. The club is fortunate to have the use of 5 courts at the Farley Wood Community Centre and holds coaching sessions there every Saturday. Latika fields more teams in the county junior leagues than any other club in Berkshire and many players have represented the county and some have progressed to play at national level.

Within the club there is a full programme of both summer and winter tournaments to improve match-play skills.

Latika is affiliated to the Berkshire LTA. Latika Members are regularly selected to join the Berkshire County training squad.

The Latika Junior Tennis Club was founded in 1971 by a retired professional coach. He started giving informal coaching to a group of children and soon developed a devoted following. He formed the group into a club, and named it after a similar club in South Africa with which he'd been associated.

Where to find us

The Club operates from the Farley Wood Centre, Turnpike Road, Bracknell, Berkshire. (A few hundred yards away from the Ice Rink.) See map for details.

Coaching

The club offers coaching every Saturday morning between 9am and 1pm (unless the weather is particularly atrocious), in hour-long sessions organised by ability. The charge for this is £3 per hour. With 5 courts and up to 4 coaches available for coaching, this offers an attractive level of individual attention. The focus is on learning through fun. Top squad trains from 1-2.30pm on Saturday. There are three sessions available on Wednesday evenings: fun tennis for beginners and improvers from 5-6pm; girls' training from 6-7pm; and match practice from 7-9pm. Other coaching opportunities include 4-week courses for small groups, individual coaching lessons and holiday tennis fun days. Coaching is offered to non-members for a trial period of 4 weeks.

Good News for Latika

Matt Reid       Latika Junior Tennis Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Matt Reid as its new Head Coach. Matt is no stranger to Bracknell nor to the members of Latika. He joined Latika as a junior member in 1989 when the club was based at Bull Lane and progressed to become the Under-18 Boys champion in 1998. He had already expressed an interest in taking up coaching as a career and he started by assisting the previous coach in 1997. Since then, Matt has successfully completed his professional qualification of Development Coach Award and he holds an LTA Coach Licence. He also completed the equivalent American coaching qualification, which encourages new and innovative ways of providing tennis coaching. Although he is now a full time tennis coach at Woking Tennis Club he has never faltered in his loyalty to Latika at coaching sessions on Saturday mornings. Matt is looking forward to the challenge of being responsible for developing Latika and both the management committee and the assistant coaches Simon Humphreys and Mark Narraway are delighted to continue working with him.

Social Events

Latika has a vibrant social life, including the Summer Barbecue & American Tennis Tournament, the Autumn Presentation Evening, quiz nights, bowling evenings, fireworks. These have been successful, enjoyable events in recent years.
